WHAT TO EXPECT

Whether  you have been to counselling before, or this is your first time, walking into a counsellor's office can be an intimidating experience.  I am here to assist with navigation but ultimately you are in the driver's seat.  I will do everything I can to help you get to your destination.
When we connect for our first appointment, we will discuss confidentiality and focus on your reasons for coming to counselling.  We might dive into what has worked for you before and what hasn't or just focus on the current issue.
Trust is a very important component of the therapeutic relationship and we will set the foundation for this in the first session.  Sessions thereafter focus on your therapeutic goals.
How long you attend counselling is completely up to you.  Most people complete therapy in 5-12 sessions but some people need more or less depending on their situation.
If you have any questions or uncertainties about working with me, please call me for a free 15 minute consultation or email me to get more information.

"Daring greatly means the courage to be vulnerable.  It means to show up and be seen.  To ask for what you need.  To talk about how you're feeling.  To have the hard conversations.

COUNSELLING FOR CHILDREN

The first appointment takes place with the child's parent(s) or guardian(s). This appointment allows for a comprehensive understanding of the child and their needs. We will also discuss therapy goals and discuss the appropriate interventions with your child.
Subsequent appointments consist of a 15 minute check-in with the parent and then a 45 minute appointment with the child.

ABOUT PLAY THERAPY*

Play is how children express themselves and process thoughts and feelings. Unlike adults, children often lack the vocabulary to express what is bothering them. Play allows children some therapeutic distance to help process difficult experiences.

*It is important to distinguish that while I have met all of the education requirements to become a play therapist, I have not yet completed my full play therapy certification.  Therefore, I am not registered with APT and do not call myself a play therapist.

COUNSELLING FOR ADULTS

I believe in a client-centred philosophy and believe that each person is the expert in their own life. I will work collaboratively with you to navigate whatever it is that you are currently facing. Therapy is also very effective as a proactive measure, not just a reactionary one. So if you are interested in personal growth and development, counselling is a great place to start.
Number of sessions and therapy goals start with you and we will discuss those in your first appointment.

Group Therapy

GROUP COUNSELLING

I have facilitated group counselling sessions for children and adults. Group therapy sessions are typically 6-8 weeks in length and provide a unique opportunity for healing with folks that are going through a similar healing journey.

Group counselling sessions are offered based on client interest and availability.  Types of groups that I facilitate include but are not limited to: grief, anxiety and depression, and Intuitive Eating and Body Image through a HAES lens.

Please contact me if there is a type of group counselling that you would be interested in.
